Additionally, please note that missed appointments will incur a fee on the day of service. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain an efficient schedule.
-
Will you keep my information private? As regulated health professionals, we must maintain the information you provide, both verbally and in written form, in the strictest confidence. In addition, we are covered by Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004. As a result, information may only be collected with consent, disclosed with consent or to your immediate health providers (circle of care), and must be secured and maintained.
-
How can massage therapy help me?Massage therapy can treat both acute and chronic conditions. We work with various patients to treat illness, injury, rehabilitation, and disability. The following is a list of conditions for which massage therapy can prove beneficial: Anxiety and depression, arthritis, asthma and emphysema, cancer, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, dislocations, edema, fibromyalgia, headaches, inflammatory conditions, insomnia, Lymphoedema, multiple sclerosis, muscle tension and spasm, Parkinson’s disease, plantar fasciitis, post-surgical rehabilitation, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), pregnancy and labour support, sciatica, scoliosis, sports injuries, strains and sprains, stress and stress-related conditions, stroke, tendinitis and whiplash.
-
How often should I have massage therapy treatment? Some people believe one treatment is enough; however, massage therapy is most beneficial for specific conditions when used over a series of treatments and followed up with maintenance or preventative treatments. On average, most people get a massage about once a month. Some people schedule more often, some less often. We can help you decide what might work best for you.
-
Will massage therapy hurt?As with many treatments affecting the soft tissue, massage therapy can sometimes cause some light discomfort, but it is not harmful. Discomfort usually diminishes, and no technique is used without the therapist discussing it with you and obtaining your permission. A comfort scale will be established, and we will work within your tolerance level. You can stop or change the treatment anytime, and we will modify our techniques to meet your needs.
-
What should I expect from my first appointment? Before your first appointment, you'll receive an automated email confirmation prompting you to complete a new client assessment. When you arrive, we'll review your assessment and discuss your goals for the session. Then, we will explain how to get on the table and step out of the room to let you get comfortable. When the session ends, our RMT will step out again so you can get dressed. At checkout, we will take your payment/insurance for the session, book your next session, and recommend any relevant self-care techniques.
-
How early should I arrive for my appointment?Arriving 5-10 minutes before your appointment allows time to use the restroom, discuss your goals for the session, and get comfortable on the massage table. If you're late, you'll receive the remainder of your massage.
-
Do I have to remove all my clothing for massage therapy?Absolutely not. The most essential part of any massage is that you're comfortable. Some clients undress fully for their sessions, some wear underwear, and others wear shorts. At Knead To Flow, we are flexible and can work around nearly anything. No matter what you choose to wear, you'll be under a blanket during your massage for modesty and warmth. We are trained in proper draping procedures to ensure your privacy is completely respected during treatment. Your comfort and ability to relax are paramount to effective treatment. We will also describe the treatments, ensuring you are comfortable with them. Your consent is sought before treatment is provided. While clients should always dress to their level of comfort, the best way to fully relax and experience long, flowing movements is with direct skin contact. This also helps prevent oils or creams from getting on clothing.
-
Do we talk during the massage session? When your massage begins, the RMT will check in to ensure you're comfortable on the table and occasionally ask about the pressure or if you have adjusted positions. Other than that, it's up to you. We always try to follow your lead. If you start a conversation, we will gladly chat. If you stay quiet, we will, too.
-
What if I’m sensitive to scents or sounds? We understand that some clients have sensory sensitivities, and we strive to create a comfortable environment for everyone. If you are sensitive to certain scents or sounds, please let us know in advance. We can use unscented oils, avoid essential oils, and minimize background noise during your session. At Knead To Flow, your comfort and well-being are always our priority.
-
Is it normal to be sore after a massage?Massage therapy can make some people sore for a day or two afterward. It might feel like the effect of an intense workout, or it could feel tender to the touch, like a bruise. This soreness could result from too much pressure or insufficient hydration. Please let us know if you're sore after your massage before your next appointment. Then, we can adjust your treatment plan. Ways to manage soreness in the meantime include: • Apply heat to the area • Use a topical pain reliever • Take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory
